Description
15 The Links in St Andrews is a pair of terraced houses built in 1875. These three-storey homes, which include an attic and basement, feature a two-bay design and are constructed from ashlar stone. They have a base course, a moulded cill course on the first floor, an eaves cornice, and a blocking course. The doorcases are pilastered and gabletted, with No. 15 having a moulded segmental-headed opening and No. 16 featuring a gothic arch. Both houses include voussoirs, stop-chamfered arrises, and stone mullions.
On the principal elevation, No. 15 has a bay on the right at ground level with fly-over steps and flanking cast iron railings leading to a doorcase that has carved details below the abaci of the pilasters. It features bolection-moulded dentilled coping on the gablet, a deep-set nine-panelled timber door, and a segmental plate glass fanlight, with an adjacent narrow light to the right. There is a single window on the first floor and a smaller window on the second floor. To the left, there is a semi-lozenged plan bay at ground level with a central tripartite window flanked by narrow outer lights and additional narrow bowed lights on the returns. Above, there is a similar window with a cornice and blocking course, along with decorative ironwork at the second floor tripartite window. A timber-pedimented three-light dormer window sits above. No. 16 mirrors this design but has a less decorative gothic doorcase and a later full-width, eight-light, flat-roofed dormer window.
The windows are fitted with plate glass glazing in timber sash and case frames, except for the dormer of No. 16. The roofs are covered with grey slates, and the houses have coped ashlar stacks with cans.
The boundary walls are low and coped, featuring inset decorative cast iron railings.
