34 Main Street, Balerno

34 Main Street in Balerno is an earlier 19th century single-storey cottage with a rectangular plan and three bays. The exterior features large, rugged and squared sandstone, with polished ashlar raised cills.

On the east elevation, there is a centrally located door with a step and platt, flanked by windows, with the left window being larger and positioned directly under the eaves, while the lower part is boarded. There is a blocked opening for a former basement at the outer left. The cottage has symmetrically placed canted, piend-roofed dormers.

The windows are plate glass sash and case, with 12-pane sash and case windows in the dormers. The roof is covered in grey slate, has a steep pitch, and features a shouldered and coped ridge stack on the outer right.
