Pharmacy, 26, 30 Main Street, Balerno

24 and 28 Main Street in Balerno is a later 19th-century, two-storey building featuring an asymmetrical design with four bays, housing two shops with living accommodation above. The structure is made of honey-coloured sandstone that is stugged, squared, and snecked, with polished margins and dressings. It includes a string course, an eaves bracket cornice, timber shop fronts, and raised cills supported on fluted brackets.

The elevation for 24, which is the Balerno Hardware shop, has a three-bay, white-painted timber shop front with narrow pilasters framing a deep-set door and the shop name painted on the fascia. The pharmacy at 26 has a three-bay layout with a narrow, deep-set door at the center, a window to the right, and a large shop window to the left. It features a brown-painted timber fascia and a cast iron apothecary pestle and mortar shop sign at the outer left corner.

The windows on the first floor are nearly symmetrically arranged, with one window on the outer left, another off-center to the left, and two grouped on the outer right. There is also a later square, slate-hung dormer on the outer left. The building has four-pane plate glass sash and case windows, along with large plate glass shop windows. The roof is covered with grey slate and features ashlar coping to the skews and corniced apex stacks.
