Description
6 Main Street in Dalmeny is an early 19th-century single-storey cottage featuring five bays arranged in an asymmetrical grouping of two and three. The principal elevation is made of stugged, squared, and snecked sandstone, while the side and rear elevations are harled. The building has stugged and droved ashlar dressings, with raised margins around the windows and door.
On the north (principal) elevation, there is a three-bay group on the right, which includes a centrally located glazed, vertically-boarded timber door flanked by windows. To the left, there is a two-bay group with windows in both bays. The west elevation has a window located on the outer right side.
The south (rear) elevation features a piend-roofed brick addition with a cat-slide outshot to the left. The east elevation is obscured by an adjoining terrace, which is listed separately.
The cottage has 12-pane sash and case windows, a graded grey slate roof that extends continuously over the rear wing, and cast-iron rainwater goods. The gablehead and ridge stacks are made of coped ashlar and have circular cans, with skews present as well.
