5 Main Street, Dalmeny

5 Main Street in Dalmeny is an earlier 19th-century single-storey and attic, three-bay classical cottage. The principal elevation features droved sandstone ashlar, while the side and rear elevations are finished in stugged sandstone. The building has polished and droved ashlar dressings and details, including a base course, a cornice, and a blocking course at the eaves. The windows have projecting cills and are margined, with corners also highlighted.

The north (principal) elevation is symmetrical, with a margined doorway in the center bay that contains a four-panel timber door topped with a fanlight. Flanking the doorway are windows in the adjacent bays. Above, there is a piend-roofed slate-hung timber dormer that features a multi-pane window, positioned centrally on the main roof pitch.

The east gable is blank, while the south (rear) elevation is near-symmetrical with three bays. Each bay has margined windows, and there is a small window located between the bays at the center and left.

The west gable is mostly hidden by an adjoining terrace. The cottage has 12-pane timber sash and case windows, except for the multi-pane dormer casement. The roof is covered with graded grey slate, and it features cast-iron rainwater goods. The gablehead stacks are coped ashlar, and there is a single-flue stugged sandstone wallhead stack centered on the rear elevation, with both circular and octagonal cans.
