Description

100-102 High Street in Montrose is an early 19th-century, three-storey and attic, four-bay tenement that forms part of an irregular terrace. The building features a shop at ground level and is constructed from painted ashlar, with the rear harled. It has a fascia and cornice above the ground floor and an eaves cornice.

The principal elevation includes a 19th-century shopfront at the center of the ground floor, which has chamfered margins, twin-leaf panelled doors, and a glazed panelled inner door. Above the doors, there are twin round-arched astragals to a fanlight, flanked by plate glass windows. The original canopy and supports are found in the cornice above. To the right, the entrance for No 100 features a narrow twin-leaf panelled door with a rectangular fanlight. There is a pend entrance to the left. The first and second floors are symmetrical and feature two canted dormers.

The north elevation adjoins 96 High Street, while the south elevation adjoins 106 High Street. The west elevation has a single bay above the pend entrance to the right, with windows at the first and second floors and a bipartite dormer above. The adjoining property to the left is 104 High Street.

The front features four-pane timber sash and case windows, while the dormers and rear have plate glass windows. The roof is covered with grey slate, and there are stone skews and skewputts, along with a brick stack on the party wall to the south.

The interior was not seen in 1997.
