96 High Street, Montrose

This early 19th century building at 96 High Street, Montrose, is a three-storey and attic, three-bay L-plan tenement that forms part of an irregular terrace. The front of the building features lined render, while the rear is harled, with plain margins.

On the east elevation, there is a modern shopfront to the right at ground level, with a pend to the left. The first and second floors have a symmetrical arrangement of windows, and there are two canted dormers in the roof.

The north elevation is adjacent to 92 High Street. The south elevation adjoins 100 High Street to the right, with a west wing to the left that has a single bay and an opening in the basement.

On the west elevation, there is a pend to the right at ground level and a boarded window to the left within the pend. Above, there is a single bay at the first and second floors, with the gablehead of the west wing visible to the left, and No 98 adjoining beneath.

The building features timber sash and case windows with plate glass glazing, a grey slate roof, a brick stack on the west pitch of the south gable, and cast-iron rainwater goods at the front. The interior was not seen in 1997.
