Description
88 High Street in Montrose is an early 19th-century, three-storey and attic tenement building with three bays, located within an irregular terrace. The exterior is harled with plain margins and features a shop at the ground floor.
On the principal elevation, there is a modern shopfront to the right at ground level, with a pend to the left. The first and second floors are symmetrical, with a blinded window to the left on the first floor and two small piended dormers above.
The northeast elevation is adjacent to 76-84 High Street, while the southeast elevation adjoins 92 High Street. The west elevation has a single bay above the pend to the right, with a partly blocked window on the first floor. Number 90 is to the left and extends west along the close.
The building has timber sash and casement windows on the first floor, with plate glass glazing, and replacement look-alike windows on the second and attic floors. The roof is covered with grey slate, and there is a sandstone and brick stack on the party wall to the south.
The interior was not seen in 1997.
