Description

Early to earlier 19th century. 3-storey and attic, 5-bay classical tenement in irregular terrace with shops at ground, stugged sandstone ashlar to front, rubble stone to rear, cornice above ground floor, eaves cornice parapet, pediment. Pilaster quoins.

E (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: pend entrance to centre at ground, unglazed fanlight with decorative grille, shops flanking, modern to left; 19th century shopfront to right, door at centre with flanking windows, architraved margins; entrance to upper stories to extreme left with architraved surround. Symmetrical 1st and 2nd floors, 3-bay central section breaking eaves, windows to centre blinded, outer bays with stone-mullioned tripartite windows, pedimented attic storey with chimney at apex, small piended dormers flanking, stone urns to left and right of pediment and parapet.

N ELEVATION: adjoining 74 High Street.

S ELEVATION: adjoining 88 High Street.

W ELEVATION: 3-storey building adjoining to left, 1 window above to extreme left, dormer above, single bay to right, pend at ground with narrow window to right, stone-mullioned bipartites at 1st and 2nd floors, dormer above, projecting 4-storey, single bay section to right, small opening to left at basement level, windows centred at 1st-3rd floors, blank returns, single bay to right, early brick lean-to at ground, windows at 1st and 2nd floors, dormer above.

Timber sash and case windows, plate glass to front, 12 and 18-pane to rear. Grey slate roof; brick gablehead stacks to N and S, brick stack rising from eaves to E; stone skews.

INTERIOR: shop to right extends into 3-storey building to rear at ground (see 80 High Street), upper storeys not seen 1997.
