Description
106 High Street in Montrose is an early 19th century, three-storey and attic, three-bay tenement building that features a shop on the ground floor, situated within an irregular terrace. The front of the building is finished in stugged ashlar, while the rear is harled with plain margins.
The principal elevation has a modern shopfront on the right side at ground level, which includes plate glass and a deep fascia board. To the left, there is a pend entrance. The first and second floors are symmetrical, with smaller windows on the first floor and two canted dormers above.
The northeast elevation is adjacent to 100/102 High Street, while the southeast elevation is next to 110-116 High Street. On the west elevation, there is a pend entrance to the right and a panelled door to the left within the pend. Above the pend, there is a single bay featuring a timber mullioned bipartite window on the first floor, with No. 108 adjoining to the left.
The building has timber sash and case windows and a grey slate roof, with a stone skew and skewputt on the north side, and a large brick stack on the party wall to the north.
Inside, the first floor has been reduced to a mezzanine level to increase the height of the shop.
