Description
150-152 High Street in Montrose is an early 19th-century, three-storey, four-bay tenement that forms part of an irregular terrace, featuring a shop on the ground floor. The front is finished with lined bull-faced render, while the rear is constructed from rubble stone. There is a cornice above the ground floor and plain margins.
The principal elevation includes a 19th-century shopfront with decorative reeded timber pilaster additions made around 1995. The shopfront has a recessed door in the center, flanked by plate glass windows, with panelled stall risers and cast-iron cresting on the cills. Above, there is a consoled fascia, and to the extreme right, a doorway with a rectangular fanlight. A pend entrance is located to the extreme left.
The northeast elevation adjoins 144 and 148 High Street, while the southeast elevation adjoins 156 High Street. The west elevation features a pend entrance on the right, with a door to the left within the pend, and windows on the first and second floors that are offset to the left, with 154 High Street adjoining to the left.
The building has 12-pane timber sash and case windows, a grey slate roof, stone skews, a broad brick stack on the party wall to the south, and a rendered stack on the north pitch. The interior includes a shop floor at the lower level to the rear, while the upper storeys were not seen in 1997.
