148 High Street, Montrose

148 High Street in Montrose is an early 19th-century, three-storey and attic, four-bay tenement that forms part of an irregular terrace and includes shops on the ground floor. The front features lined bull-faced render, while the rear is constructed of rubblestone with plain margins.

The principal elevation has a pend entrance in the center at ground level, with a modern shopfront to the right and a 19th-century shopfront to the left. The left shopfront has a recessed door and a low stall riser, complemented by plate glass, pilasters, and consoles. The first and second floors display regular fenestration, with the bays slightly offset to the right, and there are two canted dormers.

To the north, the building adjoins 140 High Street, and to the south, it adjoins 150 High Street. The west elevation features a single-storey addition with a door to the left in the pend and three closely set bays to the right on the first and second floors, along with one bay to the extreme left and a dormer to the right. This elevation shows brick repairs, tie bars, and plates.

The front of the building has timber sash and case windows, while the rear includes a variety of plate glass glazing in sash and case and casement styles. The roof is covered with grey slate, featuring stone skews, a rendered longitudinal ridge stack, and a brick gablehead stack to the north.

The interior was not seen in 1997.
