Description

Earlier 19th century. 2-storey and attic, 3-bay house in irregular terrace on ground falling to rear. Yellow/grey sandstone ashlar to front (stone-cleaned), squared rubble to rear. Base course, eaves cornice and blocking course. Central raised wallhead and pediment.

E (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: symmetrical Central paired doorways panelled; architraves with ornate scrolled consoles and linking cornice, 4 and 6-panel doors, rectangular fanlights, stained glass to No 38B. Window centred above at 1st floor, flanking pilaster strips rising to pedimented wallhead with window in attic storey. Bays flanking with window at ground and 1st floors. Later dormers above.

N ELEVATION: adjoining 36 Bridge Street.

S ELEVATION: adjoining 40/42 Bridge Street.

Timber sash and case windows, plate glass, border-glazing fixed windows of centre bay at 1st floor and attic. Grey slate pitched roof, coped skews. Brick gablehead stacks. Cast-iron downpipes, rainwater hopper and decorative fixtures.

BOUNDARY WALLS: rubble boundary walls to rear (W).
