Description
22 Bridge Street in Montrose is an earlier 19th-century, two-storey house with an attic and basement, set within an irregular terrace on sloping ground. The front is finished in sandstone ashlar, while the rear is constructed from squared rubble, featuring raised, painted margins.
The east elevation is symmetrical, showcasing a central doorpiece with pilasters and an entablature, topped by a rectangular fanlight. Above the door, there are windows centered on the first floor. The side bays include small lights in the basement and windows at both the ground and first floors, with canted dormers above.
The north elevation adjoins 18/20 Bridge Street, while the south elevation adjoins 24 Bridge Street. The west elevation has irregular fenestration, with a ground-level addition featuring cast-iron brattishing and a canted bay window at the raised ground floor on the right side.
The house has four-pane timber sash and case windows, a pitched roof covered in graded grey slate, and coped skews. Broad brick gablehead stacks and decorative cast-iron gutter brackets add to its character. The property is enclosed by rubble boundary walls at the rear.
