Description
Brechin High School, built between 1875 and 1877 by William Aitkenhead of Aitkenhead and Mason, features alterations made by the County Architect's Department between 1927 and 1930. The building is constructed from snecked rubble with ashlar dressings and string-courses, and the openings are moulded. It has two storeys and a symmetrical frontage with three windows, including a bipartite window in the center, flanked by a three-storey circular entrance tower. This tower is corbelled onto an octagonal base that transitions back to a circular shape. The roof is concave-spired with an open louvre top and a corbelled clock feature. The glazing is distinctive, featuring a margin pane divide, and the hips of the slated roof exhibit ogee curves.
