Description
St Andrew's Episcopal Church in Brechin was opened in 1888 and designed by Ross and Macbeth from Inverness. This early Geometrical church is cruciform in shape and constructed from rubble. It features a nave with narrow aisles and a southwest tower porch located at the second bay, which has a temporary gabled timber capping. The church includes slim lancet openings, with larger ones found at the tower and the east and west ends of the transepts, all adorned with hood moulds and cinquefoils in the gable apexes. The transepts and chancel have narrow, steep roofs. Inside, the church boasts squat circular piers made of Peterhead granite, tall shafts, and boldly sculptured capitals that reflect a French 12th and 13th century style. The roofs are tall and slated, with tiled ridges and finials.
