39 Castle Street, Banff

39 Castle Street in Banff is a building dated 1897, although it likely includes some earlier materials. It is constructed of dark whinstone with painted ashlar and concrete dressings and margins. The building features a central entrance with sidelights and flanking tripartite windows. The rusticated angles are present only on the first floor. There is a deep cornice separating the ground and first floors, and three substantial tripartite windows are set within large shaped gables on the first floor. The glazing throughout includes sash and case windows. The ground and first floors of the south return gable have paired windows with four-pane glazing, also sash and case. The building has concrete corniced end stacks and a slate roof.

Inside, there is a staircase with an alternate cast-iron barley-sugar twist and flat balusters. The rooms have been significantly altered for office use.
