Description
No. 10 Fore Street is a three-storey building with a painted brick front, likely dating from the mid-19th century. It stands out as it comes forward from the National Westminster Bank to its right. The building features an eaves band that supports stepped brick brackets beneath a cornice, topped by a parapet. There are three windows with painted brick lintels, and the centre window on the first floor has a plain surround with a triangular head that includes a carved anthemion. The sashes are set in plain reveals and feature some marginal glazing bars. An overall fascia with a cornice is supported by end pilasters that have paired curved brackets. The original shop window divisions include fluted colonnettes, Gothic capitals, and four-centred arched heads adorned with chevron ornament and foliated spandrels. The entrance is located in a splay to the left. This building is included for its group value with Nos. 10 to 14 (even).
