Description
This is a large, mid-19th century bank built in the Italian palazzo style, set slightly back from the buildings beside it. The bank is three storeys high and constructed with red stone facing, with ashlar dressings to the upper floors and ashlar on the ground floor. The end sections of the facade are set back slightly. It has an elaborate eaves cornice featuring brackets, and a pantile roof. A sill band with nailhead ornament and brackets runs along the second floor, while a panelled sill band is present on the first floor. There are six windows, with architraves to the second floor and panelled surrounds with volute brackets and cornices to the first floor; the windows are sash windows without glazing bars. The ground floor features cornices above a rusticated facade, with an impost string, sill band, and a panelled plinth. Four tall, round-headed windows are centrally located. The entrance on the left features double doors set under a round-headed fanlight, with a similar, larger entrance to the right. The bank is part of a group with numbers 10 to 14 on the same side of the street.
