Description
The Midland Bank is a prominent corner building, likely dating from the mid-19th century, featuring two storeys with stucco and ashlar fronts. It has a slate roof topped with a tall red brick chimney and an eaves gutter cornice. The first floor is finished in stucco and has two windows facing Fore Street, along with one window on the splayed angle, which is adorned with a shouldered architrave, flanking volutes, and an apron. There is an additional window on South Street. The windows are sashes set in plain reveals with thin glazing bars.
The bank fronts are made of ashlar and include an overall fascia with a deep cornice, sill bands, and a rusticated plinth, with blocks featuring guttae at the corners. There are three round-headed windows on Fore Street and two on South Street, all with shouldered architraves and keystones. The doorway features a round-headed lunette and a shouldered architrave, with double three-panel doors.
The Midland Bank, along with Nos 2 and 4 South Street, forms a group of buildings.
