Description
No. 61 Eastgate is an elaborate three-storey building dating from 1851, featuring a rendered exterior. It has a blocking course and a cornice with a dentil cornice, which is complemented by a carved band that connects the gable terminals to two two-storey pilasters. There are two sets of plain pilasters beneath an entablature between the storeys, with rustication between the pilasters on the first floor. The building has three round moulded arch windows with triple keystones, hung sashes with marginal lights, and panels beneath. The first-floor windows are plain. A modern shop front is present, with a full-height one-window section to the right. The top floor window is round-arched, while the first-floor window is plain. A tall passage door features plain pilasters, a dentil cornice, and an entablature, with two wreaths positioned between the top floor windows. This building is listed as part of a group, which includes Nos. 57 to 75 (odd) and Nos. 79 to 103 (odd), along with No. 2 Vickers Lane.
