Limekiln, South Side Of Unclassified Road From Fitzhead To Burrow Hill Quary At St 111 294

This limekiln, located on the south side of an unclassified road from Fitzhead to Burrow Hill Quarry, dates from the early 19th century and was restored in the late 20th century. It is constructed from red sandstone random rubble masonry, featuring relieving arches that alternate between slate and red sandstone. The structure has a standard plan and includes three relieving arches of diminishing sizes, with the top arch having been repaired. There is a 2-light opening in the middle and a damaged single light opening below, along with a square-headed opening beneath the relieving arch in a curved buttress to the right. At the time of the survey in June 1983, the parapet was largely obscured by ivy.
