Description

Meadow Gate is a house dating from the late 15th century, with alterations made in the early 17th century and early 20th century. It is rendered over random rubble and cob, topped with a slate roof. The building features a stone stack on the right and a brick stack above the entrance. It has an open hall layout with three cells and a lobby entry that leads to back-to-back fireplaces, facing south.

The house is two storeys tall and has irregularly placed early 20th-century windows. On the first floor, there are four two-light casements and one three-light window at the right end. The ground floor has two and three-light windows in the outer bays. A single-storey verandah with a slate roof, supported by wooden piers, covers the centre and features a glazed entrance door with a two-light casement to the right.

Inside, the room to the right of the entry has a nine-panel moulded compartment ceiling with inserted cross-moulded beams and rafters behind it, along with a staircase turret on the north side. The room to the left retains a plaster frieze and plaster decoration in a panel above the fireplace. The house originally had five pairs of jointed cruck trusses and was ceiled in the early 16th century, indicating its history as an open hall house.
