Description
Three chest tombs are located in a line south of the tower at the Church of St James the Great. These tombs date from the early to late 17th century and are made of ashlar stone with ledger tops and panelled sides. They are partially obscured and have subsided into the ground.
Arranged from north to south, the first tomb (A) is unidentified and has subsided almost to the moulded cornice. The second tomb (B) is also unidentified and features a leaf frieze with vermiculated console brackets on the sides, flanking paired panels of egg and tongue moulding. The third tomb (C) is unidentified as well and has subsided almost to the moulded cornice. It has pilasters on the sides that flank two round arches with billetted moulding, resembling the Ann Brulard tomb.
