Description
Coles Cottage is a late 16th to early 17th century farmhouse located in Flaxpool, Crowcombe. It is incorrectly marked on the Ordnance Survey map as Higher Flaxpool Farmhouse. The building features roughcast walls, likely over cob, and has a thatched roof with a half-hip on the right side. There is a brick stack on the left gable end and another to the right of the entrance. The layout consists of three cells and a cross passage. The cottage is one and a half storeys tall, with two dormer casements that have three lights each. On the ground floor, there are three-light casements in the outer bays and a four-light 17th-century octagonal mullioned window to the right of the entrance, which has a plank door. There is also a tiled bread oven projection on the left return and a brick outshot at the rear. The interior has not been viewed but appears to be remarkably unaltered.
