Description
Walcombe's Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th century. The building is rendered over rubble and features a hipped tile roof on the left side, with a tall brick chimney rising from the eaves, as well as another brick chimney at the right gable end and to the left of a subsidiary entrance, which was originally the back door of the cross passage that faced the farmyard.
The farmhouse is arranged in a three-cell layout with a cross passage and is two stories high. The windows are irregularly placed and date from the late 19th century, with four 3-light casements on the first floor and 3-light windows on either side of a 20th-century gabled porch on the ground floor. To the right, there is a single bay projection with a catslide roof and a 2-light window.
Although the interior was not viewed, it is reputed to contain chamfered beams with stops and a curing chamber in the kitchen behind the projection. There is an unusually high wall to the left of the cross passage, featuring a 4-panel hollow chamfered ceiling and a fine 9-panel moulded compartment ceiling with a bulbous pendant.
