Description
Coursley Cottage is a cottage dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th century and mid-20th century. It is constructed from red sandstone random rubble and features a double Roman tile roof that is hipped to the left. A large external stepped stone stack is located on the facade, and there is a brick stable gable end rear extension.
The layout includes an entrance in the outer bay on the left, leading to a cross passage with doorways on the left and right. There are two rooms to the left and a rear extension, which likely originally housed another room to the right of the cross passage, possibly a kitchen. The cottage is one and a half storeys high and has three bays.
Notable exterior features include large 20th-century metal casements in the two dormers on the left, a 20th-century wooden two-light window on the right, a 17th-century leaded cruciform window to the left of the stack, and a 20th-century metal window to the right. The entrance is located in the outer bay on the left.
Inside, the cottage has a flagstone cross passage and a good square-headed plank and muntin screen on the left, along with chamfered beams.
