Description
Crowcombe Station is a railway station built in 1862. It is constructed from squared, coursed red sandstone and features a chamfered plinth and a slate roof with overhanging eaves and wooden soffit boards. The building has brick stacks on the ridge and at the rear, along with a decorative head to the ventilation flue, also located at the rear.
The station is single-storey and has a facade consisting of a door, window, door, and window. The sash windows are set with limestone sills that rest on shallow console brackets, and there are six-panel doors with rectangular lights above. Additionally, there is a left return door and a single light window, with a sash window on the right return. The station retains its original fittings.
The railroad from Taunton to Watchet opened in 1862 and closed in 1971, but it was reopened in 1977 by the privately run Somerset Railway Company. Crowcombe Station is listed primarily for its historic interest and is recognized as the least altered and best preserved railway station on the line.
