Description

This is an early 19th-century milestone, likely reset in the mid-20th century. It’s constructed from limestone and cast iron. The stone portion is round-headed and approximately 750mm high, bearing an attached plaque inscribed and painted with “10 miles to Taunton.” The paint was in poor condition during a survey in July 1983. It’s possible this milestone replaced an earlier one shown on Ordnance Survey maps at the same location, which was labelled “Minehead 14.”
