Description
This milestone, located at NGR ST 1639 2625, dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It is made of sandstone and cast iron. The stone slab has a cambered head and shaped corners at the top of the rectangular plaque. It features a raised surround and raised lettering that reads '5 Miles to Taunton', which is bolted to the stone with three long bolts that project at the rear. The milestone stands approximately 700 mm high and is notable for its raised lettering rather than the more common incised style, as well as the visible projecting bolts at the back.
