Description

The Spurway Memorial is a First World War memorial, likely dating from the early 1920s. It features a timber Calvary cross with a carved figure of Christ, which is sheltered beneath a wooden and lead-clad gabled weatherhood. The wooden shaft of the cross is inscribed with the words: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD / AND IN LOVING MEMORY OF / RICHARD SPURWAY / ALEXANDER SPURWAY / GEORGE SPURWAY / WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE / 1914 GREAT WAR 1918." The base of the memorial is encased in stone rubble.
