Description

Milestone dating from the late 18th century, made of sandstone and cast iron. It consists of a monolithic slab with a cambered head, set into the bank at the roadside. The milestone is approximately 400 mm high and features an attached cast iron plaque with a semicircular headed top. The central section of the plaque has raised lettering that reads: '8 Miles to Minehead'. This milestone is notable for having raised lettering rather than the more common incised style.
