Description
This milestone, located at the National Grid Reference SS 9160 3765, dates from the early 19th century and was reset in the 20th century. It is possibly made of sandstone and cast iron. The milestone features an unusually tall, cambered head that stands about one metre high. It is set with a cast iron plaque that has a semi-circular central section at the top, displaying the incised lettering: '10 miles to Minehead'. The road where this milestone is situated was turnpiked in 1824.
