Description

Lower North Quarme is a farmhouse, now used as a store, dating from the 17th century with alterations made in the 18th century. It is constructed of slobbered rubble with a slate roof that is hipped to the right and features a large lateral stack to the left of the entrance. The building likely has a two-cell plan and is one and a half storeys high, with two bays on the front and one bay on the side. The first floor has dormers set below the eaves, and there are early 20th-century three-light casements. On the ground floor to the left, there is a small three-light ovolo moulded mullioned window with a removed sill and leaded iron casements, as well as a four-light ovolo moulded mullioned window. To the right of the stack, there is a 19th-century studded plank door with a wooden lintel in a recessed opening. The interior has not been seen. There is also a 19th-century three-bay extension with an independent roof on the left side, which is not of special interest. This building served as the farmhouse before the construction of Higher North Quarme, which is not included in this listing.
