Description
Wayvile Farmhouse is a late 16th to early 17th century farmhouse that has been extensively altered around 1900 and is now a dwelling. It is incorrectly marked as Wayfield Farm on the Ordnance Survey map. The building is rendered over random rubble and features a steeply pitched slate roof with sprockets. To the right, there is a slightly lower block with an independent roof, and a stone stack at the junction as well as at the right gable end. There are two large external stone stacks located at the left end bay and between the second and third bays on the left.
The plan consists of three cells and a cross passage, with a single cell addition to the right that has been enlarged and altered on the rear elevation. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a façade with two, four, and two bays. All windows are 20th century leaded two-light casements, with a three-light window flanking the central entrance. The entrance features an early 20th century half-hipped, slate-roofed, glazed wooden porch with glazed double doors. There is a staircase turret on the left return. The interior has been extensively altered but retains some remains of a plank and muntin screen. It is possible that this building was originally a 15th century open hall house, although the upper storey was not viewed.
