Description
Pool Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the late 16th century or early 17th century, although it may contain earlier elements. The building is constructed of rendered stone rubble and cob, topped with a thatched roof featuring gable ends. It has two tall front lateral stacks, with the left-hand stack having a tapered cap.
The interior was not accessible during the survey, so the exact layout and development could not be determined. However, it appears to consist of a three-room and cross-passage plan, with a projecting stair turret at the rear of the hall to the right of the passage. There is also an additional entrance to the left of the lower end front lateral stack.
The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a three-window range. The windows are early 20th century, featuring two 2-light casements flanking a 3-light casement, all with two panes per light. The ground floor includes a plank door with an overlight at the left end, flanked by two 3-light casements with three panes per light, and a 3-light casement with six panes per light at the right end.
Attached to the left end is a two-storey outbuilding with a gable-ended slate roof, which has two 2-light windows above two plank doors with cambered lintels, flanked by 2-light windows. The interior of the farmhouse is believed to be largely unspoilt.
