Description
Callard Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates back to the 17th century, though some earlier fabric may still be present. It has undergone significant alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed from rendered stone rubble and cob, topped with a concrete tiled roof that has replaced the original hipped thatch roof since the last survey.
The farmhouse features rear lateral stacks with brick shafts for the hall and lower end, and it is designed with a 3-room and through-passage plan, with the lower end located to the right. There is a 20th-century single-storey extension at the rear of the inner room on the left side. Inside, there are winder staircases leading to the inner room and the rear of the passage. The building is two storeys high and has a four-window range with late 19th to early 20th-century fenestration.
From the left end, the windows include a 2-light casement with six panes per light, a 3-light window with six panes per light, a 2-light window with two panes per light, and another 3-light window with six panes per light. The ground floor features a 2-light casement with two panes per light, an inserted 20th-century single light window, and a 3-light casement with two panes per light adjacent to a 20th-century brick porch with a concrete tiled gabled roof. There is also a 3-light casement with two panes per light and a plank door at the right end. The windows are set on brick sills. Although the interior is not accessible, it is reported to contain chamfered ceiling beams and possibly other interesting features, including an early roof structure.
