Description

Downmans Farmhouse is a farmhouse with origins possibly dating back to the 17th century or earlier. It is constructed from rendered stone rubble and cob, topped with a slate roof featuring gable ends. The building has a tall rendered front lateral hall stack that includes an offset and a bread oven projection, as well as a stack at the left end with a tapered cap.

The layout includes a through-passage, a hall, and an inner room, although the lower end may have been demolished. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a three-window range. The windows have been altered in the 20th century. The hall bay projects slightly forward and features a gabled dormer with a two-light casement window, each light having four over six panes. To the left of the dormer are two-light casements with six panes per light, and to the right, two-light casements with eight panes per light. On the ground floor, there are two-light casements with eight panes to the left and six panes to the right.

At the right end, there is a gabled slate-roofed porch leading to the through-passage, which has a six-panelled door with glazed upper panels. A lean-to structure at the right end has an asbestos slate roof. At the rear, there is a 19th-century outshut with a scantle slate roof, and a two-storey outshut from the 20th century at the upper end. The interior has been altered, but earlier fabric is likely concealed within.
