Description
Somerset House, located on Magdalene Street, is an early to mid-19th century building set back in a garden. It is two storeys high and constructed of stucco with freestone pilasters, a moulded cornice, and a parapet. The building features a stringcourse and a plinth, with five windows that have stone architraves and cornices on the ground floor. The windows are sashes with glazing bars, and there is one later stone bay. A stone Tuscan porch with a fanlight that has tracery leads to double half-glazed doors. The entrance to the garden is flanked by two gatepiers, approximately 10 feet tall, which have moulded tops and are likely contemporary with the house. The entrance is completed with double wrought-iron gates featuring an urn motif, and there are sections of low wall with steeply sloping tops on each side, along with an additional pier to the left. Somerset House and Priory House together form a group.
