Description
St Mary's House is a former rectory dating from the early 19th century. The building features a stucco-rendered and painted south front, with returns. It is a two-storey, five-bay house that has two-storey single-bay lean-to wings on both the east and west sides. The house has four ground floor and five first floor sash windows with glazing bars, while the wings each have a single sash window with glazing bars on both floors.
At the center of the front is a wooden porch that is accessed by five stone steps. This porch is supported by two Tuscan Doric columns and pilasters, and it features an entablature, a projecting cornice, and a leaded roof. The entrance has a wooden architrave with moulded reveals and a partly glazed door. The eaves cornice has been replaced in the 20th century with a wooden modillion design, and the building has coped parapets with end stacks.
Inside, both reception rooms on the ground floor contain marble fireplaces from around 1820, which have fluted surrounds and contemporary grates. The hall features re-used 18th century door architraves and doors.
