Description

This is a former farmhouse dating from the mid to late 17th century, with subsequent alterations. It was originally listed in 1953 as being located 50 yards east of the Ship Inn. The north front is constructed of clunch with brick dressings, while the south front is flint with brick dressings. The roof is black glazed pantiled on the north side and renewed red pantiled on the south. The house is two storeys high with attics. The north front features a three-light ground floor casement window within a brick surround, a blocked brick dressed long and low window on the first floor, and a central early 18th century wooden cross-window with leaded glazing bars on the landing. A 20th-century door opening and door are present. A brick heightening course is visible at the eaves, and the steeply pitched roof includes a single dormer. Around 1700, the north front was heightened with brickwork. A two-storey lean-to wing, constructed of clunch with brick dressings, was added in the 19th century to the east. The south front has a blocked first-floor long and low window. The west gable was rebuilt in the 19th century, and retains 19th-century attic purlin irons.
