The Coach House And Gateway Adjoining

The Coach House and adjoining gateway, located at the end of a row and formerly serving as the coach house for No. 4, dates from the early 19th century. This twin-gabled building, featuring a central valley, faces south into a small triangular courtyard next to No. 2. It is constructed of local stone rubble and has a triple roll clay tiled roof with brick chimney stacks. The building has a double-depth plan.

The street elevation is plain, with the exception of a small rooflight. The south elevation has two gables and is two storeys high, featuring 20th-century small pane casement windows. Each gable has a plain boarded door set in a heavy frame; the door closest to the road has a rectangular fanlight above it. The ground floor openings are topped with segmental brick arches.

The interior has not been inspected.

A notable feature is the boundary wall extending from the southwest corner, which stands 2.7 meters high and is rendered with soldier stone capping. This wall includes an angled recess with two ashlar square gate piers that are plain, with chamfered plinths and pyramidal caps, along with small stone stops at the scrolled heads. Late 20th-century wrought-iron gates are hung from these piers. Rubble walls also connect the rear of the coach house to the back of No. 2, featuring two simple arched openings. The enclosed yard is paved with setts. This building is included for its contribution to a good group of listed buildings.
