Description
The boundary walls to the front of Lantern House (not included) and Polydor House are from the 18th and 19th centuries. They are constructed of rubble with ashlar dressings. The wall opposite Lantern House is approximately 3 meters high and lacks coping. It features a central plank door with a segmental head, framed by flush stone haunched voussoirs. At the right end, there are two tall square 20th-century stone piers topped with pyramidal cappings on plain bands, which contain plank gates.
The wall continues to the right, over a plank door with a concrete lintel, leading to a pair of tall piers. The left pier is partly ashlar, while the right includes early stonework that has been rebuilt in the upper part; these also contain a pair of plank gates. The wall features an early saddle-back coping with a roll-top, primarily at about 1.8 meters high, but it drops to approximately 1.5 meters in the central section, where it sweeps at the level changes.
In front of Polydor House, there is a pair of square ashlar piers with flat pyramidal cappings. A section of the wall returns to the front of the house to the left of the doorway and also returns at the left-hand end to the eastern boundary of the site. This boundary, along with other walls in the street, is significant as part of the townscape in The Liberty and incorporates fabric of historic interest.
