Description
The boundary wall to the Manor House grounds dates from the 18th century and late 19th century. It features coursed, squared limestone with triangular coping and ashlar limestone piers. The wall is approximately 3 meters high and runs from the church steps along the east side of Church Lane and Main Street, extending as far as Chestnut Cottage. There are two entrances with flanking piers on Church Lane. The left opening is from the 19th century, with piers that have sunken panels rising to a point and square moulded tops that step up to form a pair. The right opening has 18th-century limestone piers with sunken rectangular panels and square moulded tops, with a ball finial on the left pier. A plank door with strap hinges is set in a flat-chamfered depressed stone arch to the right. The wall was raised in height in the late 19th century. Together, the wall and gate piers create a prominent feature visible from the main road.
