Description
The monument to the Grove family is a chest tomb located approximately 1 meter east of the south porch of the Church of St. Lawrence in Mickleton. It dates from the early 19th century and commemorates Piercy Grove, who died in 1784, along with later family members. The tomb is made of limestone and features a moulded capping stone and plinth. It has foliate quarter pilasters that frame four memorial inscriptions, one on each side, with decorative foliate designs in the corners. Surrounding the tomb is a limestone verge with 18th-century style iron railings and six vase finials. This monument is considered the finest among a group of similar, but later, tombs on the south side of the churchyard.
