Description
The Old Coachhouse, which was formerly a house, dates from the late 18th century and has undergone alterations in the mid-19th century and 20th century. It is constructed of red brick and rendered rubble gritstone, featuring ashlar dressings on a coursed ashlar plinth, with some areas repaired in lined out render. The building has a hipped plain tiled roof, with a moulded stone eaves cornice on the east elevation and a dentilled eaves band on the north and south elevations.
The structure is two storeys high and consists of three bays. The east elevation has an advanced central bay topped with a pediment, which includes a stone eaves cornice and band. The central doorway, dating from the 19th century, has a semicircular head that was originally a fanlight but is now filled with planks. This doorway features an arched head with an advanced double keyblock and prominent imposts. To the left, there is a bay with a 4 x 4 glazing bar sash window beneath a plain stone lintel, along with a plain planked door. To the right, the former coachhouse opening has been enlarged to accommodate 20th-century garage doors. The first floor of each bay has a shallow 4 x 4 glazing bar sash window, which has been altered to pivot windows, situated beneath flat rubbed and gauged brick heads, each with a plain stone cill.
On the west side, the elevation facing the street has a doorway and a central glazing bar sash window beneath a rubbed and gauged brick head. The rear elevation is primarily plain stone and is completely rendered. An attached boundary wall connects the house to a square stone gatepier, featuring stone coping and a dropped curved link with the pier.
