Description
Babington House, located at No. 35 Green Hill, dates from around 1630. It is constructed of coursed stone rubble and features two storeys with attics. The façade includes two three-light mullioned windows with drip-stones, fitted with early 19th-century casements. There are two moulded gabled dormers, each with two-light mullioned windows, although one is damaged. To the right, an advanced gabled wing has a similar three-light mullioned window. A sundial is affixed to the gable face. A modern stuccoed embattled porch is an incongruous addition to the building. Inside, the house retains an original fireplace and panelling and is historically associated with the Babington family, notably Anthony Babington, who attempted to rescue Mary, Queen of Scots.
