Description

The Vaults is a circa 1800 building, originally constructed of painted brick. The front facade has been significantly altered with the addition of modern bow windows on the ground floor. The returned side of the building presents three gabled bays, featuring six sash windows, with two of these windows blocked. These windows are set within painted flat brick arches. The left-hand bay incorporates a three-light convex bay, characteristic of Regency architecture, topped with ball-head finials on the cornice. The right-hand bay has a moulded wooden doorcase, including a rectangular fanlight and a small pediment supported by consoles. The roof is covered with slate tiles. The building forms a group with No. 1, The Vaults and the Red Lion Hotel, located on Market Place.
