Description

The mile post located on the northwest angle of the Town Hall in Market Place dates back to the early 19th century, specifically 1839. It is made of cast iron and features a rounded top plate that is inscribed with "London 139 miles." The splayed faces of the post display distances to various locations: "Duffield 8 1/2 miles, Derby 13 miles, Newhaven 9 miles, Buxton 20 miles, and Manchester 44 miles."
