Nos 22 and 23 Paul Street, built around 1830, are three-storey buildings made of coursed and dressed rubble. They feature bracketed eaves and have two windows each on the upper floors, which are sash windows with glazing bars and plain architraves. The ground floor has shop fronts that are contemporary with modillions and panelled pilasters on the fascia, along with braced corners to the windows. To the left of each shop front, there are a pair of segmental openings; No 8 has one blocked opening with a modern shop window inserted, while No 9 has two glazing bar sash windows, with the right-hand one having been a door. No 9 also has a chamfered corner with a shop entrance and a one-bay return, with steps leading up to the Paul Street side. The pavement next to the steps is raised, as Paul Street is elevated above Catherine Hill.
